Tigresses get even with Lady Falcons
THE battle for third isn’t over yet for the University of Santo Tomas Lady Spikers.
After a jittery first frame, the UST Tigresses bounced back to sweep the succeeding sets against the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20, 25-17, to force another playoff match for third place in the 10th Shakey’s V-League First Conference at the Mall of Asia Arena yesterday.
The Tigresses managed to shake off their sluggish first set as Aiza Maizo and Pamela Lastimosa ignited a relentless barrage of attacks that led to an early 16-8 lead.
Adamson had a difficult time recovering as miscues started to pile up. Without losing momentum, the Tigresses sealed the second set from a Lastimosa spike, 25-17, to even out the match with one set apiece.
The Lady Falcons struggled to fight back in the third but managed to equalize the scores at 17, however the Lady Spikers easily widened the gap after unleashing a 7-0 rally with three consecutive points coming from Jessey De leon.
Another set was closed by Lastimosa, 25-20, that gave UST the 2-1 advantage.
The España-based squad’s scoring spurt continued in the fourth frame that mounted to a 16-11 lead.
The Tigresses never looked back and zoomed their way to victory with Maizo delivering the final blow, 25-17, to secure game two of their series.
Maizo led the team with a game-high of 19 points, while Lastimosa and De leon added 17 and 13, respectively.
Both teams will once again clash on June 2, Sunday at 1PM at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig for their third and final game.
