Ramon Bautista on Responsible Use of Social Media

Internet sensation, comedian, and radio DJ, Ramon Bautista conducted a talk on proper use of social media and the possible harm it can cause an individual last August 25 in the Commerce Audio Visual Room.

Bautista stressed out the “3 K’s” that social media can give us, “Kasikatan, Kayamanan, Kilig” and reminded the importance of hiding one’s real identity online.

“Don’t be yourself online,” he said. Bautista used to be just an ordinary Internet user not until his first video went famous online.

He said that Facebook is one of the proofs how influential a person is; he added that a photo with many “likes” is an example.

Audience, mostly commerce students were entertained by the humor Bautista has shown, laughter filled the room as he gave advices on responsible use of the Internet.

Bautista said that cyber bullying is one of the most negative effects of Internet. He used the recent controversy faced by Robert Blair Carabuena who suffered after the media has shown his video hitting a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic enforcer.

“Iwasan ang cyber bullying, If you are the victim, ang solution ay ‘cyber dedma’ kasi lalaki yang (issue) kapag pinatulan,” he warned.

The comedian also said Internet can be a source of wealth especially if one can establish his audience.

He reminded students to always remember, “Think before you click” when using the social media. “Kapag may nilagay kayo sa net andyan na iyan forever, unlike television na at least 30 seconds lang (on-air).”

The event dubbed as “The Power of Social Media” was hosted by the College of Commerce and Business Administration Student Council (CBASC) last Friday, Aug. 24, 2012.
