Tiger Guns for Second Win
The UST Growling Tigers will fight for its second win as they face the University of the East Red Warriors at the resumption of 74th Season of UAAP Men’s Senior Basketball at the Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.
Coming from their 73-72 overtime win against the National University Bulldogs last Thursday, the Tigers are expected to hurdle the Red Warriors on their 3 p.m. encounter.
Tigers’ head coach Pido Jarencio will again rely on spitfire Jeric Fortuna, rookie sensation Kevin Ferrer, Last season’s rookie of the year Jeric Teng, Carmelo Afuang and Chris Camus against the Red Warriors.
In their last game, Fortuna sizzled with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists while Ferrer posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Red Warriors however will play without their athletic forward Lordy Casajeros who was thrown out in their 69-61 loss to University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons last Thursday.
Casajeros was ejected for hitting the head of Maroons’ guard Angelo Montecastro in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter.
Warriors coach Jerry Codinera is expected to rely on Paul Zamar, JM Noble, Von Chavez and Lucas Tagarda to keep in step with the Tigers.
On the distaff side, Lady Tigresses will also go for their second victory against the Ateneo Lady Eagles at the Blue Eagle Gym.
Guard Juvelyn Andaya and Mary Galicia combined for 29 points during their Adamson game with Galacia also grabbing 15 rebounds.
