THE Faculty of Engineering sky-rocketed at the Sky Dome in SM North EDSA as they held their general assembly (GA) in a hip hopping, popping and creep walking way last 22 August 2010, Sunday. This edgy general assembly was entitled “The Ultimate DaRe: Dance Revolution” and was hosted by Jeneleen Lansangan, Student Organizations Coordinating Council Secretary and a proud engineering student herself, and Kat Domingo from the Faculty of Arts and Letters.
The concept of their general assembly for this year was a dance competition between the departments of the faculty. All the ten departments from the Faculty of Engineering competed in the Dance Revolution while only three of them stood out: the Information Systems Dance Troupe lands on 2nd place, Association of Civil Engineering Students grooved their way to 1st place, and the hailed Ultimate Dance Revolution Champion was the Chemical Engineering Dance Troupe. A special award, the People’s Choice Award which was done via Facebook Liking, was given to the Information Systems Dance Troupe.
It has been a long time since the engineering students had a dance competition which is why the Engineering Student Council (ESC) came up with this kind of concept for a faculty general assembly, as explained by Faith Ymson, External Vice President of the ESC. “Siyempre proud kami (ESC) na nag-pay off yung efforts namin to bring out the best general assembly for our fellow students na nung summer pa namin pinag-hahandaan,” Ymson says on the remark that students from other colleges even felt a bit of jealousy with the extraordinary and must-see concept of their GA.
Also, Ymson believes that the only way to assure that the whole student body will get the chance to bond and participate really well in events like this is to come up with a concept which majority of the students will patronize.
As the Ultimate Dare came to a conclusion, the whole Sky Dome was transformed in to a club dance party as the whole Engineering students were given the chance to own the dance floor and groove ‘til they drop, may they be the champion of the Ultimate Dare or not. By Ma. Emicon M. Medenilla
