UST Singers bag 14 first prize awards and the “Choir of the World” for the second time

THE UST Singers come home with a smile on their faces and once again brought pride

to the Filipinos after being proclaimed as the “Choir of the World” and having the Pavarotti trophy 2010 for the second time after 15 years at the Eisteddfod Gerddlol Lyngwladol Kyngwladol Llagollen 2010 and bagging 14 first prize awards.


The Thomasian community welcomed their very own UST Singers through a welcome parade at the UST grounds last August 3. Confetti and loud cheers are in the air as different colleges and even the UST Education and High School waited for them to pass to their respective buildings.


In their European Tour this year, the UST Singers garnered a number of distinctions, namely: Four First Places in the Bangor International Festival (Ireland); 56th Fleischmann International Trophy competition (Ireland); Outstanding performance of a piece; the most coveted PEACE Trophy, which the organizer described as an award given to the choir “who touched the hearts of all who heard them”; 6th International Choir Festival Mundus Cantataspot 2010 (Poland) and; the Choir of the world-the Pavarotti trophy 2010 and many others.


A Press Conference was held on that same day in the TYK AVR where they also performed their singing piece ‘You Rock My Soul’.


Professor Fidel G. Calalang Jr., the conductor of the group since 1992 from the College of Music said in his interview with TV Patrol that they are not only aiming for such award but, also to be the “Ambassador of Goodwill”. By Mariah Ellen D. De Vera
