DanceQuerade: The battle for the best dance troupe!

THE Salinggawi Dance Troupe (SDT), the official dance troupe of the University of Santo Tomas, in cooperation with the Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA) grooved their way on the dance floor in this year’s 25th annual university-wide dance competition entitled: “DanceQuerade” last August 16 at the UST Gymnasium.


According to Dan Dimaculangan, Costume and Custodian of SDT, “DanceQuerade” aims to give emphasis to the upcoming celebration of UST’s quadricentennial year.


There were categories: Solo, Pair/Trio and Group. In the Solo Category, five participants represented the College of Accountancy, College of Education, Faculty of Engineering while two from the College of Fine Arts and Design. Each of the participants stood out as they showed off their unique styles, moves and genre of music.


The same colleges vied for the Pair/Trio Category, wherein the four competitors executed upbeat music and stunning moves.


The much awaited Group Category fired up the spirit of the crowd as loud cheers filled the gymnasium. Energetic and breath-taking dance moves were showcased when seven dance troupes namely: Arki Dance Troupe, Science Dance Troupe, Paci Ruthmos, Rythmyx Dance Troupe, Engineering Dance Troupe, Juvenile Crew and One Shade competed.


The ADDLIB Dance Group and students from the Conservatory of Music rendered performances in between the awarding for each category.


The winners for each category are the following:


Solo
2nd Runner Up: Ana Camille Sy (Accountancy)
1st Runner Up: Angelo Neil Diaz (Education)
Champion: Marian Carissa Balanquit (CFAD)


Pair/Trio
2nd Runner Up: Rythmyx Dance Troupe (Education)
1st Runner Up: One Shade (CFAD)
Champion: Paci Ruthmos (Accountancy)


Group
2nd Runner Up: Paci Ruthoms
1st Runner Up: Juvenile Crew
Champion: Arki Dance Troupe


“It was a successful event even though we experienced some difficulties. It is worth to be proud of,” said SDT President, Ma. Margarita Gesmundo. “I’m so proud of the neophytes of SDT and to the participants as well. We saw how they developed their skills from the first elimination last July to the second elimination.”


The judges of the event were: Mr. Anthony Trinidad, a former Salinggawi Dance Troupe member, Ms. Celine Bilbao, the choreographer of Hot Legs, and Bong Tan, the choreographer of Manouevres. By Vic Ejanda
